Gardens in Japan: Photinia hedges are all the rage

Photinia serratifolia (Oo-kaname-mochi)

These are flowering right now around here. They are usually grown as a hedge with the young new growth leaves a bright red contrasting strongly with the older equally bright green leaves. There is a Japanese photinia and a Chinese photinia species.
