Above is the senryo or Thousand coin tree. Its English common name is Ardisia tree.
It is a must-have decoration for the entrance of any house during the New Year. These coralberries come in red or gold, hence the Japanese name “thousand-coins”. In Japan, harvesting senryo is a rural industry, since the senryo are valuable serving double duty as both as Christmas and New Year decorations.
