DEUTZIA GRACILIS or HIME-UTSUGI
A native deciduous shrub with pale yellowish grey bark and its white flowers open in May to June on new shoots. Its leaves are opposite, lance-shaped, minutely serrate, vivid green above and pale green beneath. It grows in low mountains preferring wet rocks in the warm to cool temperate zone.
The plant is used for cut flowers and as garden trees.
Distribution in Japan: Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu.
