Fothergilla mansaku

A deciduous shrub in the Family of Hamamelidaceae, this popular ornamental garden tree shrub that is grown for spring interest or its red fall colours, is called Fothergilla of fothergilla gardenii. In Japanese, it is called the shirobana mansaku which means “white witch hazel” from the likeness to the feathery/spiky flowers…which makes sense because according to this study the witch hazel (Hammemelis japonica) is related (though having separated lineages at least 560 mya.)
