Quiz: Which tree has the same name as a musical instrument?
Answer: The biwa tree. The biwa tree is called Loquat tree in English, bears fruit shaped like that of the biwa – the ancient Japanese musical instrument by the same name.
I saw these fruit emerge in May (the leaves are thick and waxy) but the fruit will ripen a golden color from June onwards right through early autumn. The fruit are tasty sort of like a small and hard unsweetened peach, but it is less popular with young people than it used to be with the older folk.
