I went for a walk by the river yesterday, and a ramshackle hut had this gorgeous border garden with this series of plants. Tradescantia is known as Murasaki-tsuyukusa in Japanese. There are several varieties of tradescantia. They can be invasive, each bit left in the ground growing into new plants.
