This native woody shrub called Murasaki Shikibu or Callicarpa (dichotoma) japonica is bearing the mauve berries right now. We can see them in nearly every garden. The berry is a very startling and bright shade of purple. I have seen another berry that grows in the wild which is the exact same shade as the Murasaki Shikibu.
